Smokin' Sounds: Tulsa's Cigar Podcast

Two Tulsa guys, a microphone, and a weekly conversation about cigars, bourbon, and the people who make them.

3 min read

If you want to hear what Tulsa cigar people actually talk about when they sit down together, start with Smokin' Sounds. It's a weekly podcast recorded right here in Tulsa by hosts Shawn and Justin, and it has been running since 2023, with more than 80 episodes so far.

The show covers premium and boutique cigars, bourbon and whiskey, and pipe tobacco, with some music, wrestling, and pop culture mixed in. They bill themselves as the 2nd best cigar podcast, which tells you something about the tone: knowledgeable, relaxed, and not too impressed with themselves.

Why it's worth a listen

The best episodes are conversations with the people who make and sell cigars. Shawn and Justin regularly sit down with cigar makers and brand owners, which is a good way to learn how a blend comes together and why a small boutique brand tastes different from what you find at the gas station.

It's also a local show. One recent episode, Stories from the Tobacco Pouch, is a long conversation with Brandon W. about cigar and pipe tobacco stories, rooted in one of Tulsa's longtime shops. If you've visited The Tobacco Pouch, you'll recognize the world they're describing.

A few episodes to start with

  • Episode 84: Stories from the Tobacco Pouch. Cigar and pipe tobacco stories with a strong Tulsa connection.
  • Episode 85: Tony Barrios and the War Horse Lord Nelson. The owner of Stallone Cigars talks through a new release.
  • Episode 80: Tyler Caldwell of Smokingpipes.com. A good listen if you smoke a pipe as well as cigars.
  • Episode 79: Tradecraft Cigars. A boutique brand owner on blending and the business of small-batch cigars.

Where to listen

New episodes come out weekly. You'll find Smokin' Sounds on Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, iHeart, and Podbean, and you can follow the show on X at @smokinsoundspod.

Put an episode on next time you light up. It's about as close as you can get to a seat in the lounge without leaving the house.
